The combat blends in Monster Hunter Stories 2-like rock paper scissors mechanics, positioning, One Piece abilities, and more with traditional turn-based mechanics to be more interesting than I expected. If you were afraid of One Piece Odyssey being a typical anime-licensed game trying to cash in on the name, don’t be. What I can say is it left me with a refreshing RPG that may not revolutionize the genre, but I think starts the year off right for either or both RPG and One Piece fans. One Piece Odyssey ‘s narrative practically evaporates every time you step into Memoria, which has a memory simulation of Alabasta, Water Seven/Enies Lobby, Marineford, and Dressrosa.
